The Winchester is in an excellent location
to start many of the well known walks from Keswick. You can find
walks to suit all abilities from short strolls to the lakeshore to
full day hikes over some of the famous Lakeland mountains. Below
are a few suggestions but please ask at The Winchester for more information:

the river and
crosses bridges to Threlkeld village.

Spooney Green Lane and up the relatively steep path to the top
of Latrigg where you are greeted with some of the most magnificent
panoramic views of Keswick, Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite and the
surrounding valleys of Borrowdale, St.Johns in the Vale and Newlands.
Difficult Walk:
Coledale Horseshoe - Approximately 15 miles, Ascent
4050ft - Walk to the village of Braithwaite (2.5 miles) then up Grisedale
Pike,
Hopegill
Head, Eel Crag, Sail,
Outerside and back down to Braithwaite for a well earned drink!
Stunning walk which provides spectacular views of the Keswick area,
Newlands and Lorton Valley. |
